Job Shadow Reflection
The job shadow that had the biggest influence on me is when I went to Westside Care Center in Manchester. I was shadowing Sarah Hernandez, a supervisor on the floor. When I was getting ready to go on the shadowing experience, I didn’t have a strong idea of what I wanted to accomplish. Therefore, I was hoping this experience would give me some good ideas in the medical sciences field.
First, I was told all the rules and regulations in the facility. Then I was able to follow Sarah throughout her day on the job. There were a lot of different fun things that happen. One of which was that there is one elderly patient who purposely says Sarah’s name wrong. I thought that was pretty funny. Even though she had a lot of work to do, I was still able to ask important questions to her when she had time off. One question I ask was about the amount of minorities working in her field, since she was Hispanic. She told me that I would be surprised at the number of minorities in nursing care. I also asked about how many years she had to go to college to work in her field, in which the answer was six.
My day with Sarah was very helpful as it did show me how it can be fun to work with and help elderly people. The day allowed me to keep nursing as a opportunity because of some of the great qualities it possesses.

Final Reflection
The main idea of my capstone project is to work with my partner Lance to clean up some of the dirtier parks in Connecticut in order to let the public know how big of a deal it is to litter. From this project, I personally learned more about litter and recycling than I ever thought I would in my lifetime. Best of all, I am happy about it. I realized throughout the time leading up to the first park cleanup that I would most likely have to communicate and talk with complete strangers. It was a challenge at times, but I was able to get past that in order to really focus on the reason why we were picking up trash and recyclables.
One event in particular that stood out also happen during our first cleanup. Lance and I were picking up a mattress to move into a dumpster. At that time, a pedestrian walks by and asks all of us if we are being forced to do this. After answering no, he congratulates us and says he appreciates what we are doing. The little things like that help the labor we do feel a whole lot more meaningful and helpful.
Even while we were out in the field conducting our project, we were thinking of different ways to make our project even more influential than we planned. We did this by decided that we would keep a separate bag for by far our most common piece of litter in cigarette butts. This way, we would be able to make a comparison to the number of cigarette bags to the number of regular rubbish. This would in turn bring up awareness about both litter, but also smoking.
I believe that the results that our project produced correctly correlated with the number of parks cleaned. Even more I believe that the results have a great opportunity to increase the results, since the weather seems to be cooperating better than a month ago.
The future impact of this project could be massive for my sake. At the moment, I don’t have a concrete idea as to what I would want to do when I go to college. Hearing about all of the great things that interested me about earth’s environment can do nothing but help me think more about my future endeavors.
